Schwimmschule Steiner started in 1980 in the “Besenkammerl” (“little broom closet”) of the Stadthallenbad (Pool of the Wiener Stadthalle). Even though the sales area and office were quite small (8m²), the “Steiner ladies” — Andrea Steiner and her mother — made the most of the space.
In the 1990’s, the swimming school, which had in the meantime grown to 16m², relocated to its first shop across from the Wiener Stadthalle at Vogelweidplatz. This move was coupled not only with an increase in the size of the retail space, but also with the number of family members and employees working in the swimming school. Peter Steiner, a successful swimmer and son of the sixteen-time Austrian swimming champion Andrea Steiner, joined the company as well.
At this time, Schwimmschule Steiner had been growing steadily. The needs of the customers were becoming increasingly diversified as well, so that the course offerings were being continually expanded. Today our swimming courses are offered in several city pools all over Vienna. More than 4,000 participants of all ages learn how to swim with us every year.
Since the re-opening of the Wiener Stadthallenbad in 2014, you can find our modern new store, one of the best-stocked specialty swimming shops in the German-speaking world, across from the new entrance to the Stadthallenbad in Hütteldorfer Straße. In spite of our growth we always try to achieve our goal of “satisfied customers in the shop as well as in the school.”
For this reason, we will soon launch our online specialty swimming shop, “Schwimmsport-Steiner”. When it opens, avid swimmers will be able to purchase professional swimming equipment to their heart’s content at every hour of the day.
At Schwimmschule Steiner we see it as our mission to impart you with our joy and love of swimming. Next to the first and most important step of learning to move safely and swim confidently in the water, our goal is to teach our students a wide variety of solid swim techniques. The more you learn, the more fun you will have swimming!
